Planning a Winter Vacation?
Our Professional Appliance Repair Contractor Advises
If you are planning a long-awaited winter vacation with your family and friends, you will have to think about the safety and security of your home. That applies to your household appliances as well. You can arrange for a neighbor to pick up your mail, you will turn off all electrical devices and the main water valve. But what should you do with your main kitchen units? An appliance repair specialist advises:
-
Washing machine: Since you will be absent from your abode for a certain period of time and your washing machine will be dormant, to keep it working efficiently after you return, add one gallon of RV anti-freeze in the drum and start a spin cycle. When the anti-freeze begins draining, stop the unit and unplug it. You also have to disconnect the hoses connected to the main water valve and store them in a warm place away from moisture.
-
Refrigerator: Will the fridge develop issues in your absence? It will if you don’t take care of it before you go. Disconnect it from the main power source and if there is ice in the freezer, wait until it melts completely. Plus, make sure all hoses and tanks are drained. Disconnect the unit from the water line and let it drain afterward.
-
Dishwasher: Similar to the washer, you need to add a half of a gallon of RV anti-freeze to the bottom of your dishwasher and drain it. Unplug the unit and disconnect the hoses from the main water valve. Keep them in a warm place until you return. In addition, leave all disconnected appliances open to prevent mold and foul odor.
