Finally Got Your New Dishwasher?
Tips from a Knowledgeable Appliance Maintenance Service Provider
The first step when it comes to
dishwasher installation
, is ensuring the machine will actually fit in the space you want it to go. Many standard dishwashers need a 24” space. So, should you be also having new cabinets installed, it is vital you factor in the width of your dishwasher ahead of time. The height of many appliances can be adjusted to a certain point, however, double check to make sure your new dishwasher will fit the opening before you purchase it. An appliance maintenance service
provider explains:
Depending on the configuration of your cabinets, you may have to drill a few holes in order to fit the electrical wires, supply lines, and drainpipe. Hole saws will make quick work of this, more so with bigger diameter holes. Take off the machines faceplate in order to access the electrical box and supply line inlet. It is always advisable to first connect all the wiring, supply lines and drainage before you push the dishwasher into its niche and because it makes it easier to get access underneath the machine. Begin by hooking up the drainpipe to the discharge pump.
Many building codes do require dishwashers to be properly vented using an air gap to stop the siphoning of water. Put the air gap in one of the sinkholes, or you can drill a hole in your countertop. Connect the drain pipes to this and secure them using either a hose or spring clamps. Should an air gap not be needed, then loop the drain hose to the top of the cabinet, and attach it to the wall to stop any
back flow
coming from the sink.
Any professional appliance maintenance company
will tell you that most standard dishwasher supply lines are around 3/8” diameter, however, remember to check to see if you have the right parts before you start this job. Remember to always turn off the water supply, and install a dual outlet shut-off valve. One outlet provides the hot water and the other will be attached to the dishwasher supply line.
